I was sitting on the floor with Ada on a towel diaperless so that she could get some air time. I’ve been reading about Elimination Communication (EC) as I wrote about a few days ago.
“Are you really gonna try this?” asked me husband, giving me that look that says, okay– here’s maggie and another one of these ideas she reads about and gets carried away with.
“Well, its better for them. Why not try it,” I said. I picked up the baby and held her over a bucket with her back and head supported against my chest and my hands under her thighs, as everything I have read said to do. I made a “sss” sound, which is used in cultures that practice EC to signal to the child to pee.
And… she peed.
Both of our mouths dropped open and we laughed.
Well, I’m sure this is beginners luck, but hey, one pee not in the diaper is money saved and a cleaner baby’s bum! So it looks like we’re gonna try this idea that sounded so bizarre at first. Atleast at home of course, where I’m used to using cloth anyway.
