There are so many things I want to say, so much I think of writing about so often. It’s hard to find the time with these two little rascals running around… and Ada is closer to running than I’d like to think! She is 25 weeks old… so she’s about 6 months, although wouldn’t technically be 6 months for a few weeks, if you went by her birthday. Either way, she is pulling up on things, crawling, sitting up. She crawls like she’s swimming, with huge outstretched determined little arms. She sits up with no hands for a few seconds at a time and then kind of topples over. She props herself on her hands a lot. She can’t be left alone in a room on the floor or anything anymore, that honeymoon is over. She moves too fast now and always towards cords or under a table or couch. She’s pulled herself up on her legs and then fallen back, straight onto the back of her little head a few times now.
I’ve always told people I love the three to six month age because they will entertain themselves for a while but can’t get into too much trouble yet either. Well that time is done! With sitting up and everything, the next developmental stage is very much here. She is also trying to put things in her mouth, and gets very agitated (read: she throws a fit!) when I take unsafe things away from her. Especially paper… she hates it when I take newspapers out of her mouth! No more reading the paper while she plays on the floor!
We’re really going to have to keep talking to Azita about what is and isn’t safe for Ada on the floor. We’ve got a busy year ahead of us. I remember with Azita I couldn’t wait for the oral stage to end… she swallowed a penny, a leaf, possibly a bug or two… it’s a wonder as many of us make it through to toddlerhood as we do!
The rule I’ve begun with Azita too is: “if you don’t want Ada to play with it, don’t leave it on the floor.” I figure Azi’s old enough to understand she can have her own toys but she has to play with them in her room or at least on the couch. If it’s on the floor (and safe), it’s fair game!
