Halloween was a blast. We went to my parents-in-laws’ neighborhood. For some reason our neighborhood is completely abandoned on Halloween night– what can I say, people don’t walk around my neighborhood after dark.
But my in-laws neighborhood on the other hand is about 40 years younger and bigger and has a lot more kids. Azita got stocked up on the good candy too. We probably only trick or treated for about 30 minutes– maybe 20 houses– and her little pumpkin bucket– which she so loved– was over half full and quite heavy.
I went to the Apple Crate and stocked up on organic, non-dairy and gluten free jelly beans, chocolate, gummy bears and lollipops. I had the bag of ‘safe’ candy ready to be switched out with Azita’s candy. We still let her have a hershey’s and some M and M’s… I mean, I love M and M’s, I didn’t want to say no. And I’ve always thought, even before all this food allergy stuff, that some milk and sugar in chocolate is world’s better than the artificial colors, flavors and practically not-real-food substances found in a lot of candy.
She still loved the organic gummy bears– who wouldn’t? And one of the coolest things that she liked was dehydrated cherries– no sugar, nothing. But I called it cherry candy.
We’ll probably have to be stricter with Ada, but she’ll (we’ll) be more used to it then. It’s more about the trick or treating and the costume I think, anyway.
here are some pics of the night:
